If you’ve been following our social media, you may remember that in the early fall we celebrated Lilly because she surprised her family by finally wearing pants!
Now, Mom and Dad have even more to celebrate. Lilly’s sleep has dramatically improved recently! Lilly has consistently woken up at 2, 3, and 4 am every. single. night! With a hustling and bustling family, you can imagine how that would disturb not only her parents, but siblings too.
We were jumping for absolute joy when Lilly’s mom told us that she slept until 5:30! She may not be exactly where we’d like her to be yet, but we are well on our way!
Lilly is a perfect example of why our neurological scans are so important. We saw improvements in her behaviors AND her scans during her progress assessments. Despite her progress, there was one area that remained stuck due to a stubborn stressor preventing her “Brake Pedal” from being fully activated.
We switched up her adjustment technique and her nervous system instantly responded! The scans allow us to “check our work” and see how we can allow the nervous system to do exactly what it’s supposed to do: grow, heal, develop, and thrive.
Celebrating stories just like Lilly’s will never get old for us!
Mom had done all the research under the sun to help her son Teddy (ASD level 3) to tame his sensory challenges. When they first came, she told us she wasn't expecting miracles, simply more SLEEP for Teddy, AND herself! Sleeping through the night was not normal for Teddy. For over three years, Teddy had woken up multiple times per night. This routine was so normal, that if Teddy DID sleep through the night, Mom woke up at 3:00am anyway! Our entire office can easily recall the smile on Mom’s face the day she reported to us that Teddy slept through the night for three days in row!
As we steadily continue to unwind the stress that is stuck in Teddy’s nervous system, we are witnessing definitive strides towards his parents next goals: connection and comprehension. His parents long for him to live less in “his own world” and to interact purposefully with the family. His most recent milestones are playing with toys appropriately and interacting with parents and siblings!!! He is no longer alone in his own world. A month ago at an appointment Teddy even said “Da Da”, which was emotionally rewarding for everyone far beyond words! Mom has seen changes even in things she did not think to mention at the beginning. Teddy’s eczema is GONE, and his bowels are no longer runny!
Overwhelming, relentless, constant “FIGHT OR FLIGHT”. That was the state of Teddy’s nervous system. When the nervous system in “fight or flight” mode, it is in SO MUCH active distress that the brain struggles to calm down, even for something as essential as sleep. Our specific type of pediatric chiropractic care is able, through a combination of scan technology and adjustment protocols, to unwind nervous system distress and calm the fight-or-flight response in the brain. A nervous system that can finally rest, recharge, and renew is a PERSON that can be calm, problem solve, emotionally regulate, focus, excel at school, connect socially and simply get off the struggle bus. Expect miracles. They do come!
Please help us congratulate Sarthak!
Like many families who come into our office, Sarthak’s mom attended our Perfect Storm workshop. She noted on her original questionnaire that her son, Sarthak, is on the Autism spectrum and is diagnosed with ADHD. She let us know that he had trouble focusing, would script often, and twitched with tics regularly.
Like many of our Perfect Storm kiddos, Sarthak was born via c-section. The trauma that he experienced during his birth led him to being constipated, having reflux, and frequently sick as a baby. Sarthak grew into other sensory struggles as he got older.
We welcomed Sarthak into the office and measured where and how much stress was stuck in his nervous system. After a few short weeks of consistent care and working to activate his brake pedal, Sarthak’s mom let us know of some monumental changes! Sarthak was scripting less, his twitching decreased, and his focus improved! In fact, he made the honor roll this past marking period! The greatest thing that Mom told us is that Sarthak was handling family gatherings much better! He would normally act withdrawn with more people around, but recently he’s been able to stay included in family and parties!
One of our favorite words is connection. Connection with your children and family is everything we strive for! We’re appreciative that Sarthak’s family has given us the privilege of having him under our care.
"This is the first time in years I can remember smiling all day long!"
That’s what Ryan told us at his appointment last month. His parents (and us) are beyond elated at the progress he has made!
When Ryan first came to us, his parents were concerned not only about his back and leg pain, but also about his emotional state. Though he did well at school, he seemed disconnected from friends and from family, and struggled with anxiety and depression. It seemed it had been years since he had had actually been happy in life. His parents were burdened for him, but they couldn’t expect chiropractic care to help with that, right?
Ryan’s story is so common in kids with Autism and ADHD, and even more so in teenagers with these conditions. As nervous system chiropractors, we know what it’s like when teenagers get locked into the Perfect Storm mode - stress, burn out, anxiety, behavioral problems, and more. They are in a constant state of fight-or-flight. But we are here to break that cycle! When patients with neurological disorders get chiropractic care that focuses on regulating the nervous system, it works wonders! And such is the case with Ryan!
Now, Ryan has less pain in his lower joints; he is sleeping better and has more energy, his processing and reaction time is faster, and his scans show that his nervous system is regulating! So how did this help his emotional state? All of the body’s systems work together! When the nervous system regulates and heals, so does the body, breaking that cycle of fight-or-flight, and releasing the stress that the body holds. All of this leads to better moods, improved mental clarity, less anxiety, and a better outlook on life.
Ryan, we are so happy to be part of your journey! We can’t wait to see how far you go!
That’s what Camden’s mom told us at her very first appointment.
Camden wasn’t necessarily struggling in school, but with middle school quickly approaching, her mom wanted to get ahead of the ball. Like most ADHD kiddos, she dealt with memory problems, anxiety and intense emotions, and light sleeping, but she also had recently developed some mysterious digestive issues. After seeing us on Facebook, they decided to give True North a try. We specialize in pediatric and neurologically-based chiropractic care. To us, all of Camden’s symptoms were super common! We know how stressed out kids’ bodies can get when their nervous system is stuck in that “fight-or-flight” mode. Stressors (such as school) only exacerbate pre-existing neurological conditions (like ADHD). So our solution for Camden, and for so many other kids, is to assist the nervous system in releasing its stress. After performing a couple of non-invasive scans of Camden’s nervous system, our doctors were able to locate the stressed areas, and create a customized care program specifically for her.
The results were phenomenal! Within a month, her mother reported better, more solid sleep, increased ability to handle emotions, and even the mysterious stomach pain had improved. Her teachers noticed a difference in her focus in class, and we at True North also noticed a difference in her smile and confidence when she came in for her weekly adjustment.
This is exactly what we are here for - to help children who are struggling in that “fight-or-flight” mode get their nervous system to a relaxed state so that they can THRIVE in childhood, instead of just survive!
Camden, YOU ROCK! We are thrilled to see you crushing it and pumped to see how amazing you do in middle school!
